Does God Masturbate. Can we stop cows and sheep from burping methane. What sense does it make to tax toxins. How much longer to the end of church and state. These and other important questions will be speculated on in the coming year. And what is this new year concept. Or madness. The beginning of the year is random and makes no sense. The Earth follows an almost perfectly round path around the sun since almost five billion years. Perhaps it is convenient to count the days of a year. But would it not make more sense to start at an equinox. Or perhaps a solstice. And why do we put up with monotheistic religions when we still honor so many gods of past culture we have long buried.
Let's look at a few gods we still call out to:
1. Gods of the days of the week:
Sunday for the Sun.
Monday is the Moon.
Tuesday is Tiu, the God of War, Mars.
Wednesday is Woden, the God of cunning, Mercury.
Thursday is Thor's day. By Jove, the God of Thunder.
Friday is the Goddess Freya, Venus, the Goddess of Love.
Saturday, Saturn. The God of time.
2. Gods of the months of the year:
Not so long ago there were ten months. Then came Roman dictators.
And since all the names can be found in the internet we won't go into detail about which gods and dictators make up the months of the year.
The point is, it is much to do about nothing. Like our genes that are cluttered with useless left over stuff that may only help to prove to morons that we did indeed evolve, our cultures are cluttered with shit we never stop to wonder about. There is little to be proud of and nothing to fight over. One of the most absurd concepts that is still propagated is the belief in one true god. The almighty patriarchal dictatorships. This madness must be put aside.
The age of belief must come to an end. It is a close that has been in the making from the dawn of science. For some, science is still a bad word. Most of those who have problems with science are small minded illiterates and media junkies. Many have been educated but refuse to look at any evidence. If it is not written in the fairy tale they claim was written or inspired by their one true god, then it cannot be true. There are, however, facts, even if the word is a little too strong, that are observable.
We know that the world is round no matter how many thousands of years it was believed to be flat and how many were persecuted for suggesting that the world was not flat. We know our little planet is not the center of the universe. We know it travels around the sun. We know it is billions of years old.
We know the sun travels around in the Milky Way. We know the Milky Way has billions of stars and that the Milky Way galaxy is only one of billions.
Let us talk of Heaven and Hell:
The concept of hell was proposed by leaders of the monotheistic religions. It was a concept to terrorize the peasants into obedience. It was very effective. Still, when we know better, we are told to fear hell and obey and work to get to heaven. And believe and fight for the cause.
The universe is, ironically, almost completely hell. Heaven is a big expanding hell of unbearably barren cold or burning hot. Even with all our looking into the distant stars we are yet to find a place, other than our planet, where there is life conditions. When one understands the unlikeliness of what we have, one can come to the conclusion that the stories are not talking of a place far away, they are talking of what, when we get it in our awareness, we are part of. We live on a very seldom piece of paradise.
And the reality of it is examinable. There is no need to believe it. Life had had a long journey to get to where it is now. Almost all of the 14 billion years was without life. The last 4 billion of life was with next to no consciousness. And suddenly, in the last several thousand years, we have evolved to have the ability to be aware of both our own being and that of the universe.
It is not a fantasy. We are equipped to be the creators. We have evolved with the ability to be the gods. To get there, we have to give up our old fairy tales that tell us we are not deserving of it. We have survived and evolved to get here. It can be ours.
And to answer the first question. There is no such thing as one of anything. There are many gods. And some of them masturbate.
